The story behind MemoClock

When my dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s five years ago, he was starting to have a hard time keeping track of time and remembering appointments. This is typical for people with dementia, and to help them effectively with this problem, you would have to be with them all the time.

This was not possible for me – I lived in the other end of town, I was busy with work and had a lot of other things going on, living my life. So to help my dad – and to reduce my bad conscience of not being there enough for him – I had the idea for MemoClock. A solution that makes it possible for me to help my dad even when I am not there with him.

I had the idea for MemoClock when my father was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease five years ago. Shortly after that I decided to move into the apartment next to where he live, so that I would be able to be there for him through his disease. It has turned out to be a very good - and fun - experience for both of us. And it has been obvious from the start, that my dad should be my main guinea pig while developing and testing MemoClock.

About me: I have worked for almost 25 years in the Danish TV industry, mostly as an executive producer. Through my work with TV I have also gained quite a bit of experience with project management of websites and games.

Currently I am spending most of my time developing MemoClock.

My Father

MemoClock Guinea Pig

My father has been a very happy MemoClock guinea pig for several years now. The feature he loves the most is the clock - he uses it to keep track of the many antique shows that he follows on TV.

Despite the fact that he has several paper calendars in his home, he rarely remembers to check them. But if I send him a MemoClock reminder half an hour before going for a walk - then he is ready on the spot :-)
